The country’s biggest name in art is undeniably Fernando Botero, whose pieces are instantly recognizable. His take on the human form seems solely for satire, however, he has been able to incorporate his nature as a man from Colombia into his paintings and sculptures. You can find his work in Parque San Antonio and in parks and museums throughout the city. The city has a vibrant arts scene apart from Botero as well. The Museo de Antioquia shows contemporary paintings and sculptures, as well as a few pieces by Botero. Near the sculpture of Monumento a la Vida, on the ground floor, exhibitions by South American artists are held. The Biblioteca Publica Piloto para Latina America is a public library that exhibits photos, various artwork, and films. Also try the Museo de Arte Moderno and check out Puntocero, a giant swinging pendulum that marks the center of the city. Teatro Metropolitano host the best theatrical performances. For Tango head to Vos…Tango and Adios Muchachos. The Universidad de Medellin also has monthly tango shows. For classical music, look for the Antioquia Symphony Orchestra.
