Description

Our main destination is the top of Pan de Azucar hill at 2138 m.a.s.l. An amazing view from the east side of the valley is the reward for those who get there. But if you’re someone who enjoys a leisurely walk through a path surrounded by trees, flowers, gardens and nature connecting the communities that inhabit the hills, you are going to love The Path of Life. El Camino de la Vida is where Medellin’s government made a huge investment to improve the quality of life in the hillside neighborhoods. The tour begins in Villatina neighborhood, where a community leader will guide you to El Plan, 13 de Noviembre neighborhoods and Pan de Azucar top. This tour is not rushed. With a 2.5-hour walking range we are plenty of time to enjoy the view and take pictures of the Andean hills surrounding Medellin.

We will pick up you in your hotel and will drive to Comuna 8 while your guide contextualizes you by pointing out local symbols and providing information and details about the place we’ll visit. Your guide's aim is to showcase the dynamic, warm community and share their love of the neighborhood. The first stop is a traditional market in the downtown where you can sample a fruit and a freshly made arepa. Continue approaching to Pan de Azucar hill we arrive to Sol de Oriente UVA in Villatina. There we all meet the community leader to set off on a 2.5-hour walking tour to explore the area.

The estern hillside of the Aburra Valley is plenty of narrow streets interconected by a garden, the appropiate terrain for an urban hiking. Visiting these neighborhoods requires an open mind, empathy and appreciation for diversity. Before going into the garden we visit UVA La Libertad. Learn about how these neighborhoods went from negative to possitive and how UVAs encourage people to participate in an actively manner through recreation, amusement, art and culture. Community leader’s aim is to showcase the dynamic, warm community and share their love of the neighborhood.

You will then head to the garden, to the path of life. Besides the communitary farms, trumpet trees, cypress trees, squirrels, maguey plants, butterflies, flowers, friendly people are showing up while you walk along the way. There is plenty of time to enjoy the view and take pictures.

After reaching the top you will have the opportunity to have fun and enjoy the valley postcard-worthy views. It is a perfect moment of silence … and breathe… Minutes after you will start a 40 minute walking descending back to the car.
