Description

You would be hard pressed to read an article, blog entry or forum anywhere in the world that did not mention Pablo Escobar`s association with Medellín Colombia`s history.

He was a notorious drug lord, criminal and killer. It was a period in Medellín`s history that most locals would prefer to forget. He was listed in Forbes magazine as the 7th richest man in the world. He was elected to the house of representatives. He once offered to pay Colombia`s national debt of 26 billion dollars in exchange for immunity from prosecution. He built his own lavish luxury home to serve as his jail cell. He put out bounties on Colombian policemen and he died in a hail of bullets after being tracked down by the Colombian military, US DEA and other agencies.

Once our bilingual driver has met you at the hotel or the location you have suggested for pick up, the tour heads south on a customized journey by an air-conditioned car.

Our first stop takes place at Pablo´s initial days at an average neighborhood ironically called “La Paz” or Peace in English. Feel free to stop anytime to purchase a drink while you make yourself comfortable and take pictures or ask questions to the guide. There are convenient facilities where to grab snacks at any time so is recommended to bring Colombian pesos since not every store takes cards.

Next stop is a drives around El Poblado, most prestigious Medellín suburb, to show you how this individual managed to fit in the elite society of those days by developing the most luxurious high rises which even today stand out. Working against the status-quo, Pablo put his own penthouse right in front of the most prestigious golf course of the city. Monaco is the building where your guide will stop next so you can stretch your legs and take some photos as you are guided around.

Discover next where and how Pablo Escobar was finally caught on December 1993 after 18 months pursuit since he left his private jail south of the city. Was he shot or did he commit suicide? Make your own conclusions as your guide explains what happened the day Pablo was caught.

Finally, we will make an interesting stop at an exclusive private cemetery to point Pablo´s graveyard which lays next to his whole family and seats also next to Griselda Blanco, The Black Widow, who was Pablo´s mentor at one point along with the Ochoa brothers.

It has already been a pleasure to show you the new and improved Medellín and our team looks forward to welcoming your family and friends in the near future so feel free to ask your guide for info and special deals as you are headed back.

After approximately 4-hour of a fantastic journey, you should be already familiar with Medellín and how it has gone from the most violent city on earth to the most innovative as your private driver/guide takes you back to your hotel or any other location you feel like.
